Hot Pot King 一哥火鍋 Review (Old Kennedy Rd & Steeles Ave)

This is actually my very first time dining at Hot Pot King. I’ve always know that there’s this hot pot place upstairs where Bowl300 is but never really was interested to try this out till I see the advertisement. On the advertisement it says – $10.99 per person (not the seafood one). That price really took my attention because usually hotpot per person is about $15.99 to $20.99. Not a bad price for $10.99 right?
But to my surprise – this place renovation isn’t oh-so-great comparing to other restaurants. You gotta make your own soup base. I never experienced that because usually the waiter ask you what you want on your soup base right? But it was neat – we have a counter of sauces and ingredients to pick from. Not so bad I guess?
Here’s some of the food we ordered. They don’t have a wide range of variety but it’s the usual stuff we order. For this price – you really can’t ask for that much right? But if you order the seafood pot at a more expensive price – than you’ll have more choices. I’m not a seafood fan – so no thanks to me.
Overall – this restaurant is not bad – the food comes really quick right when you order it. So no long waits – which I like because I’m a very impatient person. For weekends – the price is $11.99 – just add an extra dollar. Usually restaurants will charge extra $2 – so this restaurant is pretty reasonable. I did make reservations before heading there but it wasn’t pack at all. I would go back and try this place again. One thing I need to upgrade is there renovation!

Shopping for the Man

I got to admit – when it comes down to shopping for the husband – I have headaches because he’s the most pickiest guy on earth. Well – picky in fashion-wise. He gives me advice on what clothes I should get or not get – which guy does that? Well – that’s my husband and that’s why I don’t get him anything he wears out in public because I don’t want to get him something he doesn’t like. So what do I do? Well – I have to be very attentive and listen to what he’s been interested in. Yep – that’s how I get some of his presents for special occasions. Lately he told he wants to get a set of riding helmets for the summer – so I’m going to surprise him with that. See – you just gotta listen and be attentive sometimes right?

If you didn’t know by now – there’s a new Congee Queen that opened for almost a year on McCowan Road and Highway 7. Before they opened – we usually go to the Don Mills location which was a bit far for us. They have the best turnip cake here! Every time I’m here – I gotta order the Turnip cake because it’s too delicious.
I ordered beef stew with vermicelli noodles.
We shared the Turnip Cake – so delicious eh?

Little Jayden’s Nursery room is almost complete – I’m just waiting for one more piece of furniture than I can finally relax and enjoy being pregnant. I’ve gained quite a bit of weight from this pregnancy – well not a bit. A lot of weight and my spine is beginning to hurt. I was told that some women would need spinal laser surgery after labor to fix up the spine – hopefully that is not the case for me. I’m very scared of pain and I cannot go through more pain after the labor – so wish me luck!

This is another new restaurant in town that opened up late November! The food here isn’t bad at all. This was my first time ordering take out. I ordered the beef stew with egg noodles. It was a pretty large portion and I love the soup based they had. The beef stew was pretty tender and juicy and I liked how they had vegetables with it too. I’m going to order this right when I give birth. I can’t eat it again because of the high carbs! Poor me. But overall – I’m impress with their food quality and price. This meal cost $4.50 for me 
My favorite part is the soup base! I pour half the bowl into the noodles and drank half of the soup alone. I was so full by than. It was yummilicious!

Golden Horse 澳門街 Restaurant

I’m not a huge fan of this restaurant because of their ridiculous pricing! Before they had the old boss – we would always come here for sizzling steak dinners but now – we hardly drop by. It’s not only about the prices – its about the food quality as well. I just don’t feel that it’s worth the money with this kind of quality of food. That’s just my opinion. They need to improve their food quality and change their prices.
We had lunch with my hubby’s relatives one afternoon and their set lunches are at $7.99 to $9.99 each. Pretty pricey for a set lunch if you ask me. I’m used to the price range between $4.99 to $6.99. These set lunches come with a soup, main course and a drink. Is it worth it? You tell me.
This is what my other half ordered – pretty large portion but it didn’t taste all that special. It’s called the Club fried noodles. Pretty weird name eh? I never heard of it. HAHAHHA.
This is the most disgusting Baked chicken on Portuguese sauce I had! There’s no taste in the sauce whatsoever. I had to add salt to gobble it down. I wanted to complain but I dare not too because I don’t wanna have extra spices in my food. Overall – I’m not impressed with this restaurant at all.
